The second day of our Staycation was all about checking out the LIC breweries!
After going to bed at a reasonable hour, we woke up earlier and I prepared a breakfast to fuel us for our day; english muffins topped with spinach, salsa, eggs, and bacon.
Once we were full, we got ready and hopped the subway to Long Island City. We started our craft beer adventure at Big Alice Brewing. We both began with a flight because that’s the only true way to make sure you don’t miss out on an incredible brew. Here are some of the beers that we tasted:
- Smoked Sasion: Incredible! Light, but the smoke really comes through.
- Sour One: Very tart and perfect for sour lovers.
- Dry-hopped Sour: Perfect combination of bitter hops and a bright tart sour.
- Sweet Potato Farmhouse Ale: Has a light sweetness with a spice finish.
- We also tasted the Biggie and the Smalls beers.
We loved Big Alice. It’s a small brewery creating an intimate feel for true craft beer lovers.
For lunch, we stopped into a Thai restaurant for some comforting pad thai and spicy red curry. It was very chilly outside so it was the perfect meal to warm us up.
We took a nice stroll through LIC to get to our next beer destination, the LIC Beer Project.
This brewery was much more hoppin’ than Big Alice so we opted for one beer each and tried to find a seat. We both picked an unfiltered IPA with a pleasant bitter hoppy finish. The atmosphere was a little different here and much less intimate, but we really enjoyed the decor. It’s a super cool space and the beer is very tasty.
Later in the afternoon, we headed back to Astoria for some Bareburger takeout and another movie. Tom was a bit under the weather so we spent our nights relaxing with tea.
