Astoria Day – 3 Year Anniversary

December 9th marked 3 years in our relationship. Usually, we are away for our anniversary, but because we ventured to Florida the week before (blog posts coming soon) we decided to celebrate in one of our favorite place; Astoria!

After consuming our favorite Wawa coffee at home we braved the snow and headed to Queens Comfort for brunch.

This hot Astoria Brunch spot has been around for awhile now, but if you’ve never heard of it we’ll give you a little background info. It opened in 2011 and has the comforting southern style foods with the coolest vibe around. There will most definitely be a wait when you show up, but don’t worry their friendly neighborhood bouncer will take your name and tell you a joke every 20 minutes while you wait. Make sure to pick a ghost pepper spicy won’t ruin your appetite too much!

We began our meal with the atomic fireballs. They’re fired mac and cheese with sriracha really good ranch!

I had the Avocado & Bacon Benedict – Spinach, Poached Eggs, Buttermilk Biscuits, Hollandaise, Red Pepper Coulis. It’s a large portion and totally worth the $16 price tag.

Tom opted for the Hobbits Salty Pork” Benedict – Bacon, Fig Jam, Brie Cheese, Poached Eggs, Buttermilk Biscuits, Hollandaise. This was also $16.

After consuming our weight in food we decided we definitely needed to take a walk. Since, we still had some Christmas shopping to attended to walk stopped by Lockwoods off of broadway.

While we were there we picked up a gift for Tom’s Dad, my brother, and a little something for us. We love this store, so many cute things!

Back at home for a little while we decided to watch the new cartoon Big Mouth on Netflix. We absolutely love John Mulaney and when we found out he did one of the voices we knew we had to check it out. This is a very adult cartoon so don’t go showing your kids!

Once we were well rested we headed over to Ditmars to continue our final piece of Christmas shopping.

First stop, Inside Astoria Gift shop. We made out really well here too! We bought another gift for Tom’s mom and a several for his stepmom!

Next Astoria Bier and Cheese Ditmars! I wanted to pickup a local goodie for my cousin and her husband.

Then it was time for the Brass Owl. You can see the little treat we picked out for ourselves in the main photo of this blog post. We absolutely love our little Astoria coffee ornament!

One our walk home we went to OK Cafe for some hot beverages! I had their incredible spiced hot apple cider and Tom got an equally as awesome hazelnut hot chocolate.

When it was time for dinner we decided to hit up an oldie but a goodie; Bare Burger!

Tom ordered the standard which is a classic beef burger with cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and their special sauce. I opted for a salad (Kale Cesar) since brunch was so heavy and we of course split the large rings and fries. It comes with all the sauces!

A fun thing to note is that Bare Burger now has the Impossible Burger. This is a vegan burger that is supposed to come so close to the actual taste and feel of meat! Here’s a quick video on it. We’ll be going back to try it soon and we’ll do a blog post all about it.

Back at home we wrapped gifts, watched Elf, and made a festive cocktail. With help from a Bacardi recipe we made Coquito.

This cocktail is a calorie bomb, but it’s totally worth it. It has cinnamon, coconut milk, sweeten condensed milk, and rum.It was really really tasty!

We had such a great day exploring our neighborhood! We can’t wait to spend a lot more weekends at home in 2018 while we save for our wedding.
