Vermont 2019 Day 1

After the incredible time we had last year Vermont in later winter/early spring is now a family tradition and we are so happy about that!

Tom and I woke up early on Friday morning to drive to Lake George to meet my parents for lunch. Sticking with tradition was chose The Silo to fill our stomachs.

Like last year I ordered the soup and sandwich combo. The soup of the day was a disgusting seafood chowder featuring slimy pieces of fake crab. My half of sandwich which was tuna was much better. I ate that with the side of homemade chips. The chips are awesome!

Tom went with a classic cheese burger which was for sure the safer option. It was pretty basic, but tasty none the less.

After lunch we explored the little gift shop in the restaurant and sampled their amazing apple cider donuts.

We drove about another hour and a 1/2 until we reached the Swift House Inn in Middlebury, Vermont. This is where we stayed last year and where we will definitely stay for many years to come.

We booked this trip on the winter foodie package. This included two nights, dinner at Jessica’s (their incredible restaurant), complimentary breakfast each morning, a cheese plate, and their homemade granola upon arrival. To top all of that off because they remembered us from last year they upgraded us to a room in the Main House. We will forever be fans of this place!

After we checked in we were brought to the Emma Willard Room upstairs toward the back of the house. It was a large cozy room with red floral wallpaper and a fire place.

We made ourselves comfy and started to enjoy the cheese plate before we headed out on our first adventure. Tom of course had to go through all the drawers because he gets super nosey when we travel.

Adventure number 1 had to be Otter Creek. It’s a great brewery to just hang out in. The beer is tasty, the staff is super friendly, and it’s fun being able to watch the beer making process while you’re there.

I ordered by favorite of their brews the Mountain Ale by The Shed and Tom had The Shed’s Mountain IPA. The Shed is a smaller brewery within Otter Creek by the way. The Mountain Ale is both hoppy and malty while the IPA is crisp and piney.

For dinner we drove into Bristol to the Bobcat Cafe. This adorable little eatery brews their own beer and serves up lots of fusion eats!

I’ll tell you what we ordered, but most of the items are no longer on the menu. Tom’s enchiladas still are and they were so good, braised pork mole, cheddar, cabbage slaw, pepitas, and pineapple salsa.

My mom and I shared a couple of appetizers. We had the fish tacos, the tamari ginger glazed sweet potatoes, and the smoked trout toast. Everything was delicious and I am sure if you try the new menu you will be very happy!

After dinner walked around the little town and checked out a few of the stores that were still open. Back at Swift House, Tom and my Dad went to the bar for a drink while my mom and I watched 20/20. Next week we will share day 2 with lots of skiing and food!
