We love finding new ways to have date night at home. For Tom’s birthday he received a man crate with all the tools you need to make pizza and this seemed like the perfect at home date night idea!
First, we set out to make the dough. The man crate came with a dough mix so how hard could it be… FAMOUS LAST WORDS! The dough was tough and sticky. We could barely form it into a ball. This was such an epic fail that we decided to use premade store-bought dough. It was square and I wanted it to be round so in my attempt to shape it I failed and we could no longer use the dough. I had to send Tom out again for more store-bought dough. Date night was not going our way.
To save the day I set out to make homemade pizza sauce. This is super easy and very tasty. You need a can of whole tomatoes, salt, and your favorite Italian seasoning. You throw all those things into a blender or food processor and puree until you get the thickness you like. There’s no need to cook it because it will cook with the pizza.
Next, Tom made the sausage. We decided on a sausage and pepper pie. This went very well and he made super crispy and delicious.
The last step was to assemble and bake our pie. We topped it with sauce, a ton of cheese, the sausage, and roasted red peppers. We followed the directions on the premade crust and had hot homemade pizza in like 15 minutes.
We enjoyed our pizza with a beer and an Orange is the New Black marathon. After a couple of espisodes, it was time to make pie number two.
Sometimes I feel like a Disney Princess with my ability to whip up a pie with whatever I have lying around. I took some pre-made pie dough, frozen cherries, chocolate chips, a little flour, and almond extract and created chocolate cherry pie. It was so quick and easy! I’ll put the recipe below.
- Pre-made pie dough
- 1 bag frozen cherries
- 1/2 bag of chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- 1 cap full of almond extract
Mix all the ingredients except the pie crust into a bowl. Put the bottom crust into a pie dish and top with filling. Put the final pie crust on top, seal the edges, and add some vents to the top. Bake in the oven based on pie dough instructions. Enjoy!
I would say this pie themed date night was rather successful. You don’t need to go out and spend a lot of money to enjoy time with the person you love. How do you do date night? Have any ideas for us?
